I'm planning to visit Garforth within the next 2 weeks from Leicester with my mum and wondered if anyone could help me trace information on the Ballance family?

My Granddad was born in 1912 and his name was Harry Ballance. His father was (I believe) called Fred Ballance and his mother was called Eleanor Wilson.

Fred's brother was also Harry Ballance. Their Granddad was called John Ballance and their grandmother called Sarah Walton.

Any help or photos would be greatly appreciated.

I'm looking for any contact information of people I can contact regarding research I'm completing on my great uncle, John Spence, who I believe was the station master at Garforth railway station from the latter part of the 19th century to around 1911.

I know he lived at the station house with wife Maria Spence (nee Robinson), and their niece (an aunt of mine) Ada Harrison, but I'm wanting to know if anyone has any photos of him, or knows any more about him and when and where he died.

I'd be very grateful for any help your website users can give me.

Garforth football team circa 1914.

Garforth ex-pat Margaret Gill has sent us this photograph of Garforth football team taken circa 1914.
Her father Reg Townend is seated front row left.
Margaret said: "I think the man standing to his right may be his father Leonard Townend who I think was the coach but can't be certain. The player seated front row, 3rd left, may be Billy Oldfield.
"I thought someone in Garforth may recognise an ancestor. Reg was born in West Garforth in 1895 and emigrated from Swillington Common to Perth, Australia in 1950. He died here in 1965."
