The aim of the Friends of Ninelands fundraiser was not only raise money for the school but to encourage the children to have exercise and fun.

Co-ordinated by Linda Woolley those taking part donned special t-shirts and carried an 8ft banner for the Leeds Family Fun Run.

Sarah Ellwood, from the Friends of Ninelands, said: "We are hoping to raise well over £400 to get this years fundraising off to a flying start!

"This event will become a regular in FONs fundraising calendar. The children very proudly took their medals to school the next day and showed them in assembly."

Ms Ellwood said Ninelands Primary School has a thriving PTA and aim to break the mould of PTA being dull.

"We hold our regular meetings in the local pubs, anyone is welcome and all opinions are valued. Last year we raised around £8.300

"The money FON raise is ploughed back into the school in some way to help benefit all every pupil.

"We have purchased Samba Band Equipment and our school now has a
fantastic oversubscribed Samba Band, running vests, leavers pens, new books and maths equipment. We have tried an assortment of fundraising ideas such as The Last Day Bun Cafe, Spring Draws, Summer Fairs, Dancing on Ice and our regular Race Nights for the adults!"

She added: "Parents who come along to FON meetings or events always find the next time they are in the playground doing the school run they know so many faces to have a chat with!

"Last year we gained Charity Status and are hoping this year to access more funds only available to registered charities."
