The In Bloom team has been established for two and a half years and has made great strides in Yorkshire in Bloom – the Team also won silver in 2006 and 2007.

Co-ordinator, Carolyn Walker, said: "We're thrilled to have maintained the standard. The judges were pleased with what they saw and the momentum for In Bloom that is growing in the village.

"Although we are a small team, we are making continual improvements and are gradually increasing the number of areas where we plant annual bedding and permanent shrubs."

She added: "We get huge support from people in the village who help us with planting, watering and maintenance, and have beautifully kept gardens and frontages of their own."

The judges commented that they were impressed by the thoughtful improvements and introduction of floral features like the raised bed at the railway station and colour scheme throughout, with the entrance stones that depict the history of the village which are testimony to the pride in heritage of the village and to the interest of residents who care for their local stone and surrounds; with the colourful displays at high impact sites and with the posters produced by the Youth Centre that were "great fun".

The In Bloom team is now getting back to work digging, clearing and getting ready for spring bulb planting.
