Councillors hope the route will encourage people to ride more often.

The planned route will be unveiled, along with other potential schemes, during the event, which runs from June 13.

Councillor Bill Hyde (Con, Temple Newsam) said: "The new route will provide a link from Colton to Whitkirk primary schools and Temple Moor High School, thereby encouraging young people to be more active.

"If we encourage more young people to use bikes, the school runs will have less of an impact on our road network."

Under the project, existing routes will also be improved, including the path between Colton and Whitkirk.
