Scores of footy fans lined up at Garforth Town to get a shot at a part in a new £10 million movie.
Film producers were at Garforth Town where the hunt was on for footballers to play members of the all-conquering Leeds United side of the 1970s.

Shooting is due to get under way later this month on the film version of The Damned Utd, a novel about Brian Clough's infamous 44-day reign as Leeds manager.

Key roles have already been cast. Michael Sheen, who starred as Tony Blair opposite Helen Mirren in The Queen, will play Clough, Colm Meaney is Don Revie and Timothy Spall is Clough's right hand man Peter Taylor.

The audition at Garforth's ground on Cedar Ridge was for lads to play Leeds legends like Billy Bremner, Peter Lorimer and Eddie Gray.

Players for Derby County, Liverpool and Manchester City as well as crowds to fill stadiums are also wanted and a second audition will be held tomorrow.

Leeds-based football coaching guru Simon Clifford has been drafted in to lead the selection process and co-ordinate football scenes.
Clifford, who also worked on soccer scenes in Bend It Like Beckham, said: "If the football does not look authentic, the whole film will fall flat.

"The football comes first. Those who get the parts will need football and acting skills.

Among those auditioning was Adam Clark, 16, of Sunderland, who plays for Garforth. He said: "I thought I would enjoy doing a football film. I feel quite confident!"

Tom Rye, second assistant director, was watching as the lads had a kickabout before saying a few lines in front of the camera as part of the auditons. "We start filming on May 25 so it's a tight schedule," he said.

The movie is being jointly financed by Sony Pictures Entertainment alongside BBC Films, Screen Yorkshire and production company Left Bank Pictures.

There are also two open casting sessions for those interested in being an extra in the crowd in football matches.
