If you're looking for sporting genes look no further than the Slinns from Garforth – with four youngsters all named player of the year.
Garforth father Neil was delighted to learn that both his sons – Liam, aged nine, and Jack, 10, had been named player of the year for Garforth Villa FC U-9s and U-10s respectively.

However, Neil was then astonished to learn his two nephews and sons of brother Roger had achieved the same feat for rugby league side Garforth Tigers.

Roger's sons Elliott, 10, and Kyran, 13, were player of the year for the Tigers' U-10s and U-13s respectively and Neil admits the family are rather proud of their unique achievement.

"For one of my sons to get the player of the season award is a great achievement but then my other son ended up winning it – that in itself is a good achievement, " said Neil.

"Then last week I was chatting with my brother and he said 'you're not going to believe it but our Elliott has got it and now so has Kyran!

"I'm not one for standing on the rooftops shouting your achievements but I just thought it was something a bit different and something that is very unlikely to happen again."

Defender Jack, Midfielder Liam and scrum half Elliott all attend Strawberry Fields Primary School in Garforth while centre Kyran attends the Garforth Community College.

The family are yet to properly celebrate the wonderful achievement, principally because the youngsters' sport is taking precedence!

"They are all absolutely sports mad and they are always dragging me and my brother out to the field with a ball whether that be rugby, football or a tennis ball!" said Neil.
