Development giant Banks submitted plans to the city council in February last year for the scheme at Hook Moor, near Micklefield.

It had been hoped that the outcome of the firm's bid for planning permission would be known by early this year.

The council revealed has now revealed it is still considering the responses it has received to the application.

The local authority also said a date had not yet been set for the case to be dealt with by one of its plans panels.

The proposals submitted by Banks are for five propeller-style turbines, each reaching a height of 125 metres (410 feet).

A temporary 60-metre test mast which the firm has been using to fine-tune its designs for the main scheme went up at Hook Moor last December.

Local people have said it highlighted how much of a blot on the landscape the turbines would be.

Durham-based Banks says the wind farm would create enough energy for more than 8,000 homes without the production of environmentally-damaging greenhouse gases.

The Ministry of Defence has also voiced fears that the turbines – each a third of the height of the Empire State Building – could play havoc with the Royal Air Force's radar network.
