Year 5 pupils have recently undertaken the challenge of revamping the playtime activities for the whole of Key Stage 2 (KS2) at Green Lane Primary.
This Active Team or A-Team as it has been abbreviated to, has decided that they are to be the ones to make a difference. 28 children have volunteered their time and expertise to train with Mr Wheelwright (Year 5 teacher) to learn how to organise and run active sessions.
The results of this are immediately evident when you step foot in the KS2 playtime area. Almost all children are now involved in one of a myriad of new activities / games organised and run by members of the A-Team.
The children are responsible for the setting up of equipment, officiating the games, dealing with minor incidents of unwanted behaviour and ultimately the well-being and happiness of everyone on the playground.
Some of the major benefits of this are; increased physical activity, an increased level of responsibility of all children involved and a vast reduction in the number of unhappy incidents occurring.
