Nicola Davies, from Green Lane Primary in Garforth, won the new award from Scholastic UK Ltd and La Jolie Ronde Ltd for her outstanding skills as a primary modern foreign language teacher.

She teaches French and Spanish and has been so successful that children as young as five are able to hold conversations with each other.

Nicola has also been made a Primary National Strategy Leading Teacher in modern foreign languages, giving her the opportunity to share her ideas and teaching techniques with other schools.

Headteacher Tammie Prince said: "The whole school is delighted. She is an exceptional teacher and a credit to our school and community as well."

Nicola, who has worked at Green Lane for five years, wins either an all expenses paid two-day trip to northern France for up to 30 children and five teachers or a tailored modern foreign languages training course.

Among her other prizes she will also receive £1,000 of La Jolie Ronde resources, £1,000 of Scholastic books and a framed certificate.
