Garforth Villa U-14s girls suffer play-off heartbreak

Garforth Villa U-14s girls suffered extra time heartbreak as Killinghall were crowned champions after a tense, evenly contested play-off final.

Competition: League Division Three Play Off Final


Killinghall started the better of the teams on a hard and bare surface that made good passing football difficult.

Chances were few and far between as both sides struggled to create openings.

Killinghall took the lead with an opportunist, superb volleyed lob into the empty net.Villa started to come into the game and were unlucky when Anna Ellington fired against the bar.Killinghall`s direct style was causing Villa trouble as they took control of the centre midfield battle.

The second half continued began with Rosie Frosdick`s dribbling and Ellie Rushworth`s running strength starting to force Killinghall back.Killinghall were dangerous on the break and Aimee Routledge handling was good as she saved twice to keep Villa in the game and the woodwork also came to Villa`s rescue.

With time ticking away Villa equalised after an great dribble and shot from Anna created confusion in Killinghall`s defence resulting in an own goal.Villa were now on top and pressed for a winner in normal time.Killinghall held out and the game when into extra time.

The start of the first extra time period saw Villa pile forward and Anna fired inches wide after seeming certain to score after creating a chance out of nothing.A further shot from Anna whistle narrowly wide.Killinghall`s long throws had troubled Villa all match and it was from one of these that they took the lead when their central midfield player of the match,Paige Swailes, drilled home.

Holly Jordan and Amelia Chermside went close with strikes on goal as Villa threw everything at Killinghall.

A nail biting final few minutes took place with Villa forcing corner after corner.
Villa were unable to convert from these corners and the full time whistle was blown.

The Villa management,parents and supporters alike proudly congratulated the entire team on what had been a fantastic first season at eleven aside and the disappointment of defeat will soon be forgotten as they look forward to Division two football next year after promotion.

Congratulations to a very strong Killinghall team on winning the Championship Title.
