Garforth's own football guru set to conquer Middle East
Garforth football guru Simon Clifford is celebrating a megabucks deal to take his Brazilian Soccer Schools chain into uncharted global territory.
Former teacher Clifford has built up a network of more than 650 schools in dozens of countries since going into business a decade ago.
Now his operation is set to move into the Middle East for the first time on the back of a link-up with a business consortium that has ties to Kuwait.
The franchise deal covers 15 countries in the region and is understood to be worth nearly £500,000 a year to Clifford's soccer empire.
He said: "It's a very exciting time – I couldn't be happier with how things are going.
"This is the biggest deal of its kind that we have signed. It's great news for all concerned."
Youngsters attending Clifford's schools develop their talents playing Futebol de Salao – a fast-moving version of five-a-side endorsed by Brazilian legends like Pele and Zico.
He is also the man behind Socatots, a skills programme which uses a ball to improve the balance, agility and co-ordination of children.
