They are Garforth's own Olympic hopefuls who are now a step closer to their dream.
Tom Mosley and Amy Merhcant are among the best in the region – and now they're ready to reach for the stars.

From gymnastics to athletics, most of these talented teens have one aim in mind – to compete in the 2012 London Olympics.

Tom Mosley is already the eighth-ranked UK under-17 runner at 100m.

The 16-year-old Garforth sprinter said: "I would love to go to the Olympics – it would be like a dream come true!"

He has been training for around three years and is a friend of Garforth athlete Amy Merchant, also 16.

They were two of the seven budding stars who were presented with a Sporting Chance grant at Asda head office in Leeds.

Amy, who is winner of the 2008 Yorkshire County Championship, told the YEP: "These grants are helpful as it's really expensive for our equipment."

Amy, who trains six days a week, hopes to do the heptathlon at the Olympics – high jump, long jump, hurdles, shot put, javelin, 200m and 800m.
