Three late goals in the final 10 minutes of the match gave an unfair reflection on a hard fought, battling performance from Villa in their first Division two game, having won promotion last season.

A strong Bolton Woods team, who are the early pacesetters in the Division, made the running and Villa's defence were hard worked to withstand the onslaught.

A long ball created the first Bolton goal as their striker scored at the second attempt after a save by Amelia Chermside.

Villa gradually came into the game with good runs from Chelsea Holmes,Ellie Rushworth and Sophie Naylor.

Villa deservedly equalised through Chelsea and were unlucky to have another effort from Sophie Naylor ruled out for offside.

The scores were level at halftime 1-1 and the second half began with Bolton Woods having territorial advantage. A defensive mix-up saw Bolton Woods take the lead 10 minutes into the second half.

Bolton Woods used their numerous subs to good effect but Villa were without any subs and this took its toll in the last quarter of the game as they tired and were unable to test the Bolton Woods defence.
Further late strikes were hard to take on Villa who battled to the end.

The Villa player of the match was Louise Boase whose effort was superb as she battled for every ball in midfield.

The loss of last season's goalkeeper and top goalscorer are a big hurdle to overcome for Villa, but the players who did play, can take heart from a gutsy performance.
