NODA Report on 'Death Walked In' - Spring 2008

The report by Mrs Pam Booth in the latest edition of 'Scratchings' is as follows:

A well constructed set, with good props, beautifully portrayed the inside of a country hotel. This was a wordy play but the cast , especially the ladies, managed to get the most out of the lib and kept the interest of the audience. It was good to see yet another new face in the Society and one worth hanging on to. There was good interaction between the two sisters and a good contrast in their characters. Sadly, after all the intrigue the ending was very predictable.

Thank you Garforth for your warm welcome. I look forward to my next visit in the autumn.

May we remind all Members that the Annual subscription of £15 is now due, and unless it is paid a member will not be covered by the Society's Insurance, and may not take
part in any production.

'It's Never Too Late'
November 2008
By Martyn Drake

I hope the audiences enjoyed watching our most recent production as much as we enjoyed rehearsing and presenting it, although I must say, I still haven't been able to force myself to face another quiche . . . . .

I didn't recognise the potential of this play when we initially read it, but then again I never do. The rehearsals started very well, and I would like to think under Pam's guidance, the momentum was kept going
all the way through to the last night.

Although the nature of the audiences seemed to vary from night to night, I think a common denominator was that the situation and the characters struck a chord with most people, murmurs of recognition arose on the delivery of certain lines on more than one occasion.

The aerobics and the dance sequences were vital to the success of the play and although fun, were hard work to perfect. Their execution by Anita, Lorraine and Mike is to be congratulated. Less physically demanding, but just as much fun, I did enjoy the opportunity to wave ladies frilly lingerie around the stage. This was always guaranteed to be a crowd pleaser and certainly didn't disappoint.

It was a welcome return to comedy after a couple of intense productions, and the next one promises to be every bit as enjoyable

Spring Production
April 2009
'My Friend Miss Flint'
A comedy by Donald Churchill & Peter Yeldham
Directed by Anita Rushforth

Twenty Members came to the auditions which were held in December at The Miners' Welfare Hall. It was very encouraging to see several new members present and the following cast was selected:

Tom Lambert Mike Baker
Lucy Melanie Hill
Albert Mike Osborne
Sarah Carole Hurst
Mr Dodds Danny Martin
C.P. Lens Erica Nicholls
. . . . . .

For this production we have a new Director—Anita Rushforth who is usually found at the other side of the footlights, so this is a new venture for her and we wish her the best of luck.

The play centres around the main character of Tom Lambert, a botanist and TV gardening personality, who is under investigation by the Inland Revenue. His accountant, who happens to be his ex-wife, has invented an imaginary employee for him and the play revolves round their antics to prevent a Tax fraud, ably abetted by Albert, the daily cleaner and confidence trickster and two tax inspectors.
The result is a very funny and sparkling comedy.

Three new members have recently joined us, Melanie Hill, Kim Howard and Jenny Nash and who are all involved in some way or other with the next play.
