Educating Rita - (Library Theatre Touring Company)

Venue: GCC Drama Studio, Lidgett Lane, Garforth, LS25 1LH

Wednesday, June 25

Undumo Wesizwe - (Zimbabwean vocal group) Evening consists of a full performance from the group plus performances from students from Garforth Community College, Bramley Primary school, Brigshaw Language College. There will be performances from students from Durban South Africa, who will be visiting Garforth for the festival.
Undumo Wesizse will visit GCC to lead a masterclass session with students.

Friday, June 27

Ceilidh (plus caller)

The culmination of an extensive educational project - students from GCC will work with professional musicians to learn how to play Irish Music.
The evening will involve performances from professional musicians as well as input from the students and will end with a ceilidh

Soweto Kinch + GJRB

GAF has commissioned Mobo Award Winner & Mercury Music Prize nominated Soweto Kinch to write new piece for GJRB. He will lead a series of workshop sessions and then do both a performance with GJRB followed by a concert with his own band. (www.myspace.com/sowetokinch)

Support from Emily Levy and Rich Arthurs + Soul Sounds (Soul Sounds are a student band/choir from GCC, which Emily runs. This is an example of bringing prof artists and community together)

Friday Night Live

This is the culmination of an intensive 6 week educational project.
Story - On 25th April 5 bands, Cats Pyjamas, Communication from Elsewhere, Off License, Room 86 and the Koodoos, performed a short set in front of a panel of music industry professionals. The panel gave supportive advice on how to improve etc.

Middleman – a Leeds based Indie/Hip Hop band then worked with the 5 bands over a period of six weeks.

Friday Night Live sees them all return to the festival to perform.
