The creative writing challenge called Go Forth Garforth is part of an education showcase involving renowed Yorkshire poet Ian McMillan.

Go Forth Garforth - Stephen Walker, aged nine

Garforth, here we do things merrily, especially with our family
Although you may think now is good, we will be better, well, I think we could
Roads we use to link up places, and to see familiar faces
Fires are nothing to fear, because the fire brigade are nearly here
Our community is a place to be, and there is lots to do and see
Round the bend there's loads to see, vets and doctors and dentists for teeth
The transport here like buses and trains, also the schools give us lots of brains
Here going back in time, it was only just a big coal mine.

Go Forth Garforth - By Chris Coombs

Go forth Garforth
Go forth Garforth
Go forth Garforth
GO FORTH!

Garforth began with mining
The machines were delivered shining
The evacuees were so sad
Because their carers treated them bad

After they re-built all the shops
Selling lots of veg and local crops
I went to the shop to get some treats
I staggered out carrying all my sweats

Playing football for Garforth town
Loosing 3-0 made the crowd frown
Brazilian is the best of the best
Learning all the tricks and all the rest

Go to Gleeblands with my mates
To the skate park but not to skate
Zooming down the ramps as fast as I like
Up round and down on my muddy mountain bike

Go Forth Garforth - By Leah Hallas, aged eight

Go Forth Garforth
Outside England people come into Garforth

For Garforth we made it really fun
Outside Leeds people come into Garforth
Restaurants are all over the place
This is Garforth come to Garforth and join the fun
Hiking tracks there are a lot of in Garforth

Go Forth Garforth make it a better place
And see if you can do something to help
Restaurants have good food in Garforth
Friendship is very important in Garforth
Outside Garforth is not so good inside is very good

This is Garforth
Hello Garforth say hello to Garforth

Go Forth Garforth - By Liam Woolley, aged nine

Go forth Garforth
Go forth Garforth
Over hills and country sides

From Garforth you can travel the world
Open to anyone who comes
Run races in Leeds
This is a fandabidodsey place
Happy people know they are safe in a place like Garforth

Garforth is a fab place
Amazing things happen hear
Restaurants are first class
From a stinky old mine to a popular place
This is Garforth
Happy Garforth as we know it.

Go Forth Garforth - By Bethany Flanagan, Beverley Mpofu & Ailish Kearns

Chorus
Go Forth Garforth
Go Forth Garforth
Go Forth Garforth
Huh! Go Forth!

Ian Mac, Ian Mac
Went to New York and ate a big Mac
He went to London where they spoke all posh,
He inspired some infants, one of them Josh

I found him funny , never a moment he's sad,
He's so nervous his face sweating like mad

CHORUS
He posed for the photographer at Garforth College,
And made astrange poem about a pool full of porridge
He picked on a teacher at the fire door,
It would be true to say that MacMillan's never a bore

CHORUS
