Here are some of the best events happening at the city's culture venues. Which will you choose?
1. Leeds City Museum
Join Leeds City Museum in person and online for May half term as they say a big ‘I Love Leeds!’ and welcome visitors back to the museum. There are activities happening right throughout the week to get involved with and all updates will be given on the museum's Facebook and Twitter pages.
2. Kirkstall Abbey
Take part in a fun, free family trail and track down the cheeky gnomes hiding all over the Abbey. Pick up a trail from the Visitor Centre to track them down and tick them off your list as you explore the ruins. Available from May 29 through half term.
3. Thackray Museum of Medicine
An online exhibition featuring portraits of mothers working at home during the coronavirus pandemic by photographer Fran Monks. Presented by Thackray Museum of Medicine in collaboration with the University of Huddersfield and researcher Jim Reid, it reveals how women were disproportionately affected during lockdown, juggling many roles and responsibilities.
4. Leeds Art Gallery
Join youth engagement officer Angie Thompson and Leeds Museums and Galleries’ assistant curator of costume and textiles Vanessa Jones for an online workshop inspired by Leeds Art Gallery’s latest exhibition Zadie Xa: Moon Poetics 4 Courageous Earth Critters and Dangerous Day Dreamers. 5. Leeds Town Hall
Zog at Leeds Town Hall, May 31. Based on the book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, the smash-hit stage adaptation from Freckle Productions features lively songs from Joe Stilgoe and directed by Emma Kilbey. Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s much-loved Zog is a magical production for all ages.
6. Temple Newsam
From May 29, follow the estate’s gorgeous nature trails and see the stunning rhododendrons in full bloom. Download a free online activity pack with crafts inspired by your visit including nature weaving and floral crafts. Packs also available from Temple Newsam House as part of your visit, included with general admission.
