Days Out: Green Howards Museum, Richmond
Located in the centre of the town’s bustling market place, the museum is a real hidden gem, and with prices at just £4.50 for adults for the whole year and under 16s going free, there’s even more reason to put this on your must-visit list.
You’ll be captivated by the 300-year story of the regiment, which is brought to life using a unique collection of military artefacts, intensely personal items and special exhibitions.

Hide AdVisit between now and the end of March and you’ll get to see their fantastic new exhibition called ‘Tommy Bodkins – military materials then and now’ which features work by talented textiles student, Rachel Fraser, who studies at the nearby Cleveland College of Art and Design.
It’s the first time the museum has ever collaborated with a student exhibitor, and the exhibition features work inspired by the museum and the army, from jackets and badges, to weapons and the barracks themselves.
While you’re in Richmond, why not delve a little deeper into the town’s past and check out Richmond Castle – the best-preserved example of an early Norman castle in England – before refuelling with some of Yorkshire’s finest food and drink at The Frenchgate Hotel and Restaurant.
