It’s environmentally friendly and relaxing and you don’t have to worry about car parking and traffic jams.
It means you can read your Yorkshire Evening Post – in print or online – or chat with friends. It makes a lot of sense.

Hide AdBut the reality is rather different as many cross commuters will tell you.
Of the 26,000 weekday morning commuters arriving in Leeds, 14.1 per cent of them have to stand.
That’s 3,666 people. Incredible, isn’t it?
Leeds, a powerhouse of a modern city with an intelligent and educated workforce forced to endure cattle-like conditions.
It means the rush-hour journey into Leeds is simply unacceptable for people who pay good money for a comfortable, hassle-free journeys.

Hide AdIt should get better, of course, with investment in new rolling stock but for the time being people are being penalised for letting the train take the strain.
Other areas fare no better. In fact, in London it’s even worse.
If Leeds is to prosper and if the Northern Powerhouse really is to grow we cannot let our commuters be treated in this way.
With the price of driving into the city simply out of reach for many people, the train is the only option.

Hide AdTrain companies and our transport bosses can’t simply say they are working on solutions.
They must deliver good results. And quickly.
