Hide AdThe lights for the event on top of major city landmarks are being tested this evening.
In a social media post, West Yorkshire Police contact management centre said: "Tonight in Leeds you may see some strange lights! Nothing to worry about, it is Light Night Leeds which will be held over mainly from 22nd to 24th.
"There have been some reports of lights in the city tonight.
"They will be seen for miles."
The contact management centre later confirmed the city was not being "invaded by aliens".
Many residents took to social media to discuss the sightings of the lights.
