Prosecutor Martin Robertshaw said police asked him to stop and when he did they asked if he had anything with him.
Mr Robertshaw said Wood told officers: "I have a knife in my pocket."
Wood was searched and found to have a knife and a knuckle duster, which was damaged.

He admitted possessing a bladed article in a public place and possession of an offensive weapon.
Wood, of Arundel Close, Wakefield, has 14 previous convictions for 74 offences, including two offences of possessing a knife in a public place.
Allan Armbrister, mitigating, said Wood had been walking to the shops when he was the victim of an assault.

Mr Armbrister said there was no evidence his client had produced the knife, adding: "He was very stupid to pick up a knife, given the circumstances.
"One of his friends had been attacked a few weeks before and that was playing on his mind."
Jailing Wood for ten months, Judge Neil Clark told him: "The bladed article it seems to me, is the most serious. You have done this before."
