It happened early this morning in Selby Road, Halton, close to the junction with York Road. Pictures taken this afternoon show police at the scene as they investigate the crash, which has left a 31-year-old man with life-threatening injuries.

The crash took place in Selby Road (A63) in Halton, near the major junction with York Road (A64). It happened at about 5.20am this morning (Tuesday October 24).

Hide AdPolice believe the 31-year-old driver of a black BMW 320D was travelling along Selby Road towards York Road when his car crashed into railings. No other vehicles are reported to have been involved in the crash.
What have West Yorkshire Police said?
Police have confirmed that the driver was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Has the road reopened?
