Berry's Leeds jewellers robbery: Man trying to smash windows with hammer tackled to floor

The man was tackled to the ground and detained after trying to smash the windows of Berry’s Jewellers on Albion Street on Wednesday afternoon.
The 25-year-old was arrested and remains in custody.
Footage from the scene shows that one of the windows was significantly damaged and a police cordon was put in place around the shop until later in the evening.

Hide AdA spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: “At 3.30pm yesterday, police received reports of a man with a hammer smashing a window at Berry’s Jewellers, in Albion Street, Leeds.
“The suspect had been detained at the scene by members of the public.
“Officers attended and arrested a 25-year-old man on suspicion of attempted theft and possession of an offensive weapon. He remains in custody.
“A scene was put in place for forensic examination and was lifted by 7pm.”
