Data obtained from a Freedom of Information request to West Yorkshire Police (WYP) showed that 60 dogs were recorded as stolen from the city between January 2020 and May 2021.
Of those stolen, just 17 dogs were found, with 71.7 per cent of dogs not recovered.
This means a total of 43 dogs were not found by the police.
Four arrests were made in relation to the reports of dog thefts in Leeds - just 6.67 per cent of all recorded cases.
A total of 24 police reports did not record the breed of the dog.

Seven French bulldogs were stolen in Leeds between January 2020 and May 2021, according to police figures.
2. Staffordshire Bull Terrier
Three Staffordshire Bull Terriers were stolen in Leeds between January 2020 and May 2021, according to police figures.
3. Cocker Spaniel
Four cocker spaniels were stolen in Leeds between January 2020 and May 2021, according to police figures.
4. Yorkshire Terrier
Three Yorkshire Terriers were stolen in Leeds between January 2020 and May 2021, according to police figures.
5. Bullmastiff
Two Bullmastiff type dogs were stolen in Leeds between January 2020 and May 2021, according to police figures.
6. Chihuahua
A Chihuahua was amongst other breeds which saw one dog stolen in Leeds between January 2020 and May 2021, according to police figures.
