There is always lots going on at Dogs Trust Leeds and this week has been no exception. Here we take an exclusive look behind the scenes of day-to-day life and meet some of the handsome boys and gorgeous girls who are all looking to find loving new homes.
1. Kathka the Husky was enjoying some fuss in the sunshine
We saw Kathka, a 13 year old Husky, enjoying some time relaxing in the sunshine with her favourite handler Jemma.
We can’t believe that Kathka is 13 years old! She is such a fun and bubbly girl who clearly enjoys her walkies. She is super friendly with people and dogs, but as she doesn’t like to share, she isn’t looking to live with any other pets. She needs a calm and peaceful home with kids no younger than 16. So don’t be put off by her age! She will make a fun and active member of the family. Photo: Dogs Trust
2. Billy the Patterdale Terrier was seen exploring the Autumn leaves
We met the lovely Billy, a bubbly 11 year old Patterdale Terrier enjoying some playtime amongst the Autumn leaves.
He's full of life and loves being around people. He's super friendly with everyone he meets. Although he can be a bit barky around unknown dogs, he is manageable and if slowly introduced he can have the occasional walking buddy. He doesn't want to share his home with any other pets though because he's not one to share the limelight. He loves nothing more than snuggling all afternoon on the sofa after a lovely walk. 3. Pudding the Spaniel has been enjoying her new life in the Lake District
Back in January, 6yr old Cocker Spaniel Pudding was the first dog to be adopted from the Leeds rehoming centre in 2022.
She was found abandoned on the streets with some serious medical issues. Thankfully the centre’s Vet team were able to deal with this and following surgery and rehabilitation she ran off to start her new life in the Lake District.
Her forever family told us that she loves to run on the beach and explore the countryside, followed by lots of snoozing on the sofa! What a happy ending! Photo: Dogs Trust
4. After 5 months of waiting, Tommy the Lurcher finally left for his forever home
Amongst the many dogs who left for their forever homes this week was Tommy! The 18m old Lurcher was handed over a few months ago after his previous owner could no longer keep him.
He needed the team to help him learn how to keep his paws on the ground, and thankfully his training paid off!
This week he was officially adopted and left to start his new life. Good luck Tommy! Photo: Dogs Trust
5. Mia the ex-racing Greyhound is looking for a new start as a family pet
Mia is a 5-year-old ex-racing Greyhound looking for her forever home. Mia is a very sweet but slightly timid girl who would benefit from a quieter home with an enclosed garden. She may not have lived in a house before so will need patient owners who can help her adjust and also house train her if needed, but we are confident she’ll learn quickly. Mia is not fussed about other dogs and prefers to stay away from dogs that are overly excitable, but she should be happy having walking friends out and about. Photo: Dogs Trust
6. Loki, a one year old Labrador, is hoping to find his forever home soon
Loki is a fun one year old Labrador who still has a few things to learn as he’s a young boy. He's a lovely lad with a heart of gold and is making progress with his ongoing training around loose lead walking and self-control. He is manageable around other dogs but until he's developed better social skills through training, he can't share his home with any other pets. Adopters who want a fun, energetic dog to do some training with will love Loki! Photo: Dogs Trust
