Pupils and staff from closure-threatened Benjamin Gott High School demonstrated outside Leeds Civic Hall while an action group campaigning to save playing fields in north Leeds took their fight to Leeds Town Hall. Elsewhere the White Rose Shopping Centre was beginning to take shape and a religious leader took to the streets of Leeds to highlight the plight of the homeless. A restaurateur tasted success after winning the won the International Indian Chef of the Year contest, while success of a sporting kind at grassroots level in the city was also high on the news agenda.
